Linguascope, The Golden Years: How to make KS3 language leraning count, Tuesday 29th September, 19.00h, online

This session explores the KS3 year (11-14 year olds) - the golden years of language learning, a precious opportunity to build curosity, confidence and secure linguistic foundations. This session will encourage paricipants to rethink what these years are really for and consider how a carefully designed curriculum can lay foundations not just for examination success, but for young people who believe that learning a language is achiecable, relevant and worthwhile. Participants will leave with a clear framework for reviewing and strengthening their 11-14 language curriculum, together with practical ideas that can be implemented immediately.

Presented with my 'Succeeding as an MFL teacher' co-author Jennifer Wozniak-Rush.

Language Show, Towards independence in MFL - moving students from support to autonomy: Sunday November 15, 12.30-13.15, online

This workshop explores how we move students in MFL from scaffolded, adaptive teaching towards genuine independence. It considers the tension between supporting learners in the moment and avoiding long-term dependency, and unpacks a gradual release model that is genuinely incremental. The session focuses on practical strategies including metacognitive modelling, self-correction systems, vocabulary retrieval habits, and staged removal of scaffolds in speaking and writing. It also reflects on the realities of classroom constraints and how independence can still be built within them.
