Teacher / Subject Leader / Blogger / Author / Speaker

I am Silvia Bastow, and I am an experienced Leader and German teacher. Having worked in teaching for 22 years completing my PGCE in 2005, with my recent roles, I am now also exploring the route of language consultancy.

I hold a Master's Degree in German Linguistics and Literature and have also worked as SLE, GCSE examiner and ECT mentor.

​

I am a proud member of Association for Language Learning council, Fellow of Chartered College of Teaching and one of the German Expert Mentors which are part of the GIMAGINE project developed by the Goethe Institut in partnership with the NCLE and British Council who are working closely together to change the declining situation of language teaching and provision in secondary state schools in England.

​

I regularly contribute to conferences and CPD sessions locally, nationally and internationally and am interested in working with teachers and departments to discuss and implement strategies to help them deliver evidence-informed education to improve students' outcomes and foster their love of languages. 

Education & Experience

  • I am an experienced subject leader and teacher as well as a specialist leader in education for MFL, a GCSE examiner, a fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching, and an ITE/ECT mentor. I believe every student deserves an excellent education, and I am dedicated to providing just that. I strive to combine my experiences with teaching and learning to support teachers in our subject area learn how to reflect and develop their own practice so, great language teachers can be just that - great teachers who stay in the classroom.
  • I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Translation, a Master's degree in German Linguistics and Literature from Prešovska University in Prešov, Slovakia, a QTS from Chester University in Chester, U.K., NPQLTD qualification from LLSE.​
  • I have 20 years of teaching experience in secondary schools in England.

Professional Associations

  • I am a member of the Association for Language Learning (ALL) council and one of the HMOs, Fellow of Chartered College of Teaching (FCCT) and a German Expert Mentor (GEM).

Certifications

  • I am a qualified language teacher with a PGCE in German and have also completed the National Professional Qualification for Lead Teacher Development (NPQLTD) program.
